Read 1 Kings 13/11-19. In 11.11-34: The young man of God and the old prophet. This is the main part of the story. It has nothing to do with Jeroboam but concerns obedience to the prophetic word and has affinities with other prophetic legends such as 1 Kings 20 and the stories about Elijah and Elisha. In verse 18: The motive of the old prophet in lying to his younger colleague is not explained. Comments or Questions..
Try reading these verses each day in a Lectio Divina style.
That is a four fold reading of the scriptures.
Each time through read the scriptures out loud slowly.
The first time through listen for a word or a phrase or an image that speaks to you. (Lectio)
The second time reading the same scripture what questions or dialogue are emerging within you as you reflect on this scripture. (Meditatio).
In the third time through reading out loud see what prayer is starting to arise out of you as you ponder this text in your heart. (Oratio).
Now on the fourth time through this text just still in the quiet for a time and sink into the experience of these words in your heart. (Contempatio).
