Read Genesis 10.15-32. In verses 21-31: Shem is the ancestor of the Semitic people who lived in and around Assyria and Arabian Peninsula. Shem is the father of all the children of Eder (v. 21). Eber may be related to the word "Hebrew which describes a number of wandering peoples on the margins of society. One of these groups formed the core of the Hebrew or Israelite people (14.13; Ex 9.13). Comments or Questions.
Try reading these verses each day in a Lectio Divina style.
That is a four fold reading of the scriptures.
Each time through read the scriptures out loud slowly.
The first time through listen for a word or a phrase or an image that speaks to you. (Lectio)
The second time reading the same scripture what questions or dialogue are emerging within you as you reflect on this scripture. (Meditatio).
In the third time through reading out loud see what prayer is starting to arise out of you as you ponder this text in your heart. (Oratio).
Now on the fourth time through this text just still in the quiet for a time and sink into the experience of these words in your heart. (Contempatio).
