Read Jeremiah 9.17-25. In verse 17: Mourning women: In ancient Israel, official mourning women are called to funerals to lead the community in weeping. In verse 21: Here they are summoned to weep over the destruction of the nation, for death has come up into our windows. The funeral to which the people are invited is their own.
