Read Exodus 21.15-36. The principle for life seeks to limit the extent of any revenge. The principle who means that simply paying money to a victim or victim's family cannot compensate for the loss of a of a priceless life or limb. Try reading these verses each day in a Lectio Divina style.
That is a four fold reading of the scriptures.
Each time through read the scriptures out loud slowly.
The first time through listen for a word or a phrase or an image that speaks to you. (Lectio)
The second time reading the same scripture what questions or dialogue are emerging within you as you reflect on this scripture. (Meditatio).
In the third time through reading out loud see what prayer is starting to arise out of you as you ponder this text in your heart. (Oratio).
Now on the fourth time through this text just still in the quiet for a time and sink into the experience of these words in your heart. (Contempatio).
