Read Exodus 9.8-12. In 9.8-12: The sixth plague: Soot and ashes cause boils on humans and animals. In verse 10: This is the first plague in which humans are directly affected along with the animals. In verse 11; On the magicians, see comment on 7.22. In verse 12: On Pharaoh's hardened heart, see comment on 4.21. This is the first time the Lord explicitly hardened his heart. Try reading these verses each day in a Lectio Divina style.
That is a four fold reading of the scriptures.
Each time through read the scriptures out loud slowly.
The first time through listen for a word or a phrase or an image that speaks to you. (Lectio)
The second time reading the same scripture what questions or dialogue are emerging within you as you reflect on this scripture. (Meditatio).
In the third time through reading out loud see what prayer is starting to arise out of you as you ponder this text in your heart. (Oratio).
Now on the fourth time through this text just still in the quiet for a time and sink into the experience of these words in your heart. (Contempatio).
