Read Daniel 2.24-35 In verses 31-34: Colossi, giant statues of gods or rulers were erected throughout the Hellenistic world to demonstrate Greek power. The five parts of the statue symbolize the sucession of empires that would rule Judea prior to the kingdom of God: Babylon, Media, Persia, Greece, and the helenistic Ptolemaic and Seleucid dynasties. The decreasing value ofthe materials symbolizes historical decline. The mixture of iron and clay is the feet represents the mixed Greek and indigenous ancestry of the Ptolemaic and Sleucid dynasties; as well as the weakness of their rule.
