You are asked to read the following Biblical texts and prayerfully reflect on them and then if you wish post your reflections, comments or questions for other members of the community to respond to.
Read Ecclesiastes 3.1-8. In 3.1-8: Poem on times. Contrasting extremes demonstrate that there is proper time for all dimensions of human endeavor. In verse 5: Throw away stones ... gather stones. Interpreted by some early Jewish commentators as a time for sexual relations and a time for abstinence. Comments or Questions.
Try reading these verses each day in a Lectio Divina style.
That is a four fold reading of the scriptures.
Each time through read the scriptures out loud slowly.
The first time through listen for a word or a phrase or an image that speaks to you. (Lectio)
The second time reading the same scripture what questions or dialogue are emerging within you as you reflect on this scripture. (Meditatio).
In the third time through reading out loud see what prayer is starting to arise out of you as you ponder this text in your heart. (Oratio).
Now on the fourth time through this text just still in the quiet for a time and sink into the experience of these words in your heart. (Contempatio).
