In verses 1-7; Charged with squandering his master's property, the manager uses his authority once more to his own advantage by discounting his master's debtors. In verses 8-9: The master's commendation of the shrewdness of the dishonest manager is ironic or bitter, like the final verdict on those who make friends by dishonest wealth (16.11; 6.24-26).
